Microsoft has been releasing its own flagship convertible, the 'Surface' tablets for a few years and they are getting really better in specs and design with new updates in the series. And its been a few months since Microsoft has announced its new update on the surface pro series ,the Surface Pro 3.
Honestly it was one of the devices that was on my wish list coz I always loved the idea so much since the surface rt and the Surface Pro 3 is the latest device on the line. The 'size to spec' ratio of this device is really impressed me and the device seems to be so versatile and powerful comparing to a normal windows tablet(although its a bit expensive)Weighing around 1.76 pounds with a thickness of .36 inches ,seriously I've never seen such a thin and compact device could comes up with the top on the line 4th gen core i7 processor.
Coming with a 12'' 2160X1440 10 point multi touch IPS display and a full sized USB 3.0 port the table features kickstand is the best one ever with a whopping 150° rotation angle enough to use it in canvas mode. The stylus is great for drawing and making handwritten notes using OneNote .The 9hrs battery life the device comes with 5 MP front and rear cams which seems to be fair enough for a Convertible.
The price starts at $799 for the core i3 64 GB version with 4GB RAM and Microsoft provides a well balanced options for processor and memory capacity and the top on the line core i7 512 GB version with 8 GB of RAM will cost you $1949.Plus it will cost you $125 for the keyboard which is kind of a reason u buy this device... so if you are buying the tablet ,spend an extra $125 to get the 'Surface Experience'
With all these mind blowing size, design and features ...I still don't want to buy this device .
So here we go..
The 5 reasons I don't wanna buy the surface pro 3
This Article doesn't mean that I hate Microsoft Surface Pro. Its a great gadget and I love its design and features. This article is for those who are in the fence whether to buy or not buy the device. After all Its up to You.
1.Nearly unusable as a 'Lap'top
The surface pro is all hailed to be used as just like a normal laptop and they are pretty much competing with the MacBook air laptops. However the fact is that even with the improved kickstand ,its really hard to use on laptop and adjust the screen towards our face even though the it works fine on a desk. I'd prefer to use a real laptops where i need a laptop
2.Pretty damn expensive
The cheapest 64gb version with i3 processor will cost u $799+$125 for that keyboard which is pretty good for typing but sucks when it comes to the trackpad.
The prices will go up to as more specs fall in. Convertible laptops like Dell XPS 12 comes in same price range with a neat keyboard and trackpad.
3.Heating issue
The device houses a 4th generation core i3,i5 or i7 processors which produces a great amount of heat. Even with all those air vents along the ides of the device ,it gets pretty hot while using. And heat is something that i really don't wish to afford with a 2 grand tablet.
4. Text scaling and stylus
The text Scaling goes really wrong and appears to be not to be sharp and its not giving full a full fledge experience. Even many windows tools look horrible with these rescaled text. The text scaling on apps from 3rd party developers is something I would love to get rid off.
The stylus is great and the palm rejection works well but the problem comes when u wanna store the stylus. Microsoft advices to stick it to the side of the tablet as its magnetic and I hope its a joke and the other option is to slide into a cheap plastic holder on the keyboard cover. When we are talking stylus ,it should fit 'inside ' the device and should be an integral part of the design.
5.Wait for the surface pro 4
Buying the surface pro 3 won't be such a great move with only a few weeks to the announcement of surface pro 4 which would be a great update for the pro series with new features. So calm off and wait for the best..
